apathy, apathy, apathy
one of the greatest sins anyone can commit is apathy.. is it any coincidence then that apathy sounds like the root word to apartheid.. the lack of concern and attitude of impassiveness towards an act of discrimination and segregation..
what do we do when we see atrocities beyong the boundaries of reason being broadcasted on the tv? do we just sit there in our seats and think 'oh this has nothing to do with me.. its so far removed from my world..' or do you go 'this is reality this is actually happening somewhere in the world.. some people's lives are actually being destroyed..' while you sit comfortably right here in your arm chair.. with nothing on your mind but deciding what drink to get when you go to zouk later..
we are all guilty of apathy.. whether to a large extent or not.. but what can we do? we are but observers in a world where sympathy does nothing and gets nowhere.. or maybe it is precisely this attitude that embodies apathy.. that drives it along and propels it to the core of our hearts..
i once wrote a play in secondary school.. it was titled 'apathy, apathy, apathy'.. the performance didnt make the cut for teachers day though.. apathetic assholes
